Our CTS "'Burst Taper" 550k calibrated potentiometers are inspired by the characteristics of late-1950s Centralab pots, which were renowned for consistently measuring well above their nominal values. Many original examples exceed 600kΩ, allowing more high frequencies to pass through and contributing to the open, articulate voice associated with the finest vintage instruments.
The distinctive C2 taper of the original Centralab potentiometers also plays a significant role. At the midpoint of rotation, resistance is approximately 10% below its maximum value, resulting in a faster and more responsive curve than conventional 30% audio taper or linear potentiometers. We replicate this behaviour using carefully selected CTS Premium 450 Series "'Burst Taper" 550k potentiometers, individually calibrated for consistency and performance.
For customers seeking the closest possible recreation of an original late-1950s Gibson wiring harness, we also offer our premium 600k wiring assemblies. These feature individually selected 600k CTS "'Burst Taper" potentiometers, genuine 50s wiring, and handmade Luxe Radio capacitors. Available with either Wax-Impregnated Grey Tiger or Paper-in-Oil Bumblebee capacitors, these harnesses represent our most historically accurate and tonally faithful electronic package, built to reproduce the openness, clarity and dynamic response of the finest original Bursts.

We offer both short-shaft and long-shaft potentiometers, the latter being suitable for Gibson USA models produced from 1977 onwards. Complete pre-assembled harnesses are also available with a Switchcraft three-way toggle switch, period-correct two-strand braided hookup wire, spaghetti and PVC tubing, and, upon request, a genuine Catalin switch tip.
