About Us
The Pursuit of Authenticity
Founded in 2022 by Giuseppe Fumuso and Mattia Brena, John Henry Guitars is an Italian workshop based in Almenno San Salvatore (Bergamo), dedicated to the design and manufacture of historically accurate electric guitars, pickups and restoration components inspired by the golden era of the 1950s and 1960s.
Our workshop was founded on a simple belief: vintage tone cannot be recreated by copying a single component. It is the result of hundreds of decisions made during the design and manufacturing process, where materials, construction techniques, tooling, tolerances and craftsmanship all contribute to the final instrument.
This is why research is the starting point of everything we do.
Every project begins with the careful study of original Gibson and Fender instruments and components. Rather than focusing solely on specifications or appearance, we aim to understand the manufacturing philosophy behind them—how they were designed, how they evolved through the years, and why seemingly minor details often had a significant impact on the finished product.
That knowledge guides every stage of our work, from the design of a pickup to the construction of a complete instrument.
Alongside our pickup production, we build, restore and refinish electric guitars with the same commitment to historical accuracy. Whether recreating an early PAF humbucker, restoring a vintage instrument or building a historically inspired guitar from the ground up, our objective remains the same: to respect the original design while achieving the highest possible level of authenticity.
Traditional craftsmanship remains at the heart of our workshop, complemented by modern engineering, digital design and precision manufacturing technologies whenever they help us better understand, reproduce and preserve the originals. Technology, in our view, is not an alternative to hand craftsmanship—it is another tool that allows us to work with greater precision and consistency while remaining faithful to the methods that defined the instruments we admire.
Every product is designed, manufactured, assembled and inspected entirely in our workshop in Italy using carefully selected materials and period-correct construction techniques. We deliberately keep our production limited, allowing every instrument and every pickup to receive the attention it deserves.
Above all, John Henry Guitars is a workshop built by enthusiasts. The curiosity that led us to examine our first vintage instruments still drives us today, encouraging us to question established assumptions, refine every detail and continue learning from the remarkable craftsmanship of the past.
We are proud to work with musicians, collectors, restorers and fellow enthusiasts who share the same appreciation for authenticity, quality and historical accuracy. Their trust is what allows our workshop to continue growing while remaining faithful to the principles on which it was founded.
For us, preserving the legacy of the great instruments of the past is not about nostalgia. It is about understanding them deeply enough to build them with the same care, the same respect and the same attention to detail that made them timeless.
